Stop Making Sense(1984)

Directors : Jonathan Demme

Synopsis :

A concert film documenting Talking Heads at the height of their popularity, on tour for their 1983 album "Speaking in Tongues." The band takes the stage one by one and is joined by a cadre of guest musicians for a career-spanning and cinematic performance that features creative choreography and visuals.

Our View :

This is one of the best concert docs every made, by a filmmaker who has in fact won a Best Picture Oscar (Silence of the Lambs), one where we get to see a musical genius perform, instead of seeing your typical talking heads.

Stage to Screen

These days, it's not possible to get to a concert, or a musical. We thought it would be a good time to present a handful of movies to satisfy the urge. Bookended by amazing music performers (David Byrne & Robbie Robertson) starring in documentaries, there are 3 Best Picture Oscar Winners adapted from Broadway musicals.
